Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: Awareness, Research And Resources
“Human needs arrange themselves in hierarchies of pre-potency. That is to say, the appearance of one need usually rests on the prior satisfaction of another, more pre-potent need. Man is a perpetually wanting animal. Also no need or drive can be treated as if it were isolated or discrete; every drive is related to the state of satisfaction or dissatisfaction of other drives.”― Abraham Maslow
“Motivation theory is not synonymous with behavior theory. The motivations are only one class of determinants of behavior. While behavior is almost always motivated, it is also almost always biologically, culturally and situationally determined as well.”― Abraham H. Maslow

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory
"Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a psychological theory proposed by Abraham Maslow in 1943. It suggests that human needs can be arranged in a hierarchical order, with more basic needs needing to be satisfied before higher-level needs can be addressed. The hierarchy is often depicted as a pyramid with five levels:
- Physiological Needs: These are the basic requirements for human survival, such as food, water, air, shelter, and sleep. These needs must be met before an individual can move on to fulfilling higher-level needs.
- Safety Needs: Once physiological needs are met, individuals seek safety and security. This includes physical safety as well as financial security, health, and stability in their environment.
- Love and Belongingness Needs: After safety needs are satisfied, people crave social connections, love, and a sense of belonging. This involves relationships with family, friends, romantic partners, and community involvement.
- Esteem Needs: With social connections established, individuals seek self-esteem and the esteem of others. This includes feelings of accomplishment, recognition, respect, and confidence.
- Self-Actualization: At the top of the hierarchy is self-actualization, which refers to the realization of one's full potential and the desire to become the most that one can be. This involves personal growth, creativity, pursuing one's passions, and achieving a sense of fulfillment.
Maslow suggested that individuals progress through these levels sequentially, with lower needs taking precedence over higher ones. However, he also noted that individuals may move back and forth between levels, and the hierarchy is not strictly linear for everyone. Additionally, not everyone may reach the level of self-actualization, as it depends on various factors such as personal circumstances, cultural influences, and individual differences."
